About

Barbara Pozek

Barbara Pozek (b. 1960 Largo, Florida) is an artist that works mainly with Fiber with the addition of art elements.

I believe that art is less about materials chosen and more about the concepts one expresses in their work. Using all the typical art elements in my work, and combining them with the unique qualities of fiber (both the physical and historical) I tell a story to the viewer. Sometimes it is a whisper and sometimes it’s a shout, but it is always creating a conversation about life from my unique perspective.

Having lived in rural areas for the majority of my life, a love of natural elements is often found in my work. Another element that often runs through my work is depicting intimate musical moments, which feel very authentic to me. I have a few series I work in, each one expressing different concepts I like to investigate.  As I age, I begin to appreciate the changes I’ve witnessed, not only in our society, but our landscapes and my own inner landscape.

I also believe that creating work that is “perfect” is less than interesting and belies the spirit that can be found in items made by hand. The more we allow machines to take over our art, the more perfect it becomes and soulless. My work often gives a nod to the fiber work of the past which, at times, was imperfect but lovingly made.

Barbara Pozek currently lives and works in Kimberling City, Missouri.
